| 1. | Orange Glow Firethorn Description:Evergreen, dense, fast growing shrub of regular round habit and small oval dark green leaves. Grown for its dense inflorescences of small white flowers and masses of brightly coloured ball-shaped small fruits which surround the young branches all along their length. In case of Orange Glow variety they are bright orange. They appear as green in Summer, change to orange in Autumn and remain on branches untill eaten by birds in Winter. Firethorn is therefore suitable for gardens where singing birds are welcomed and we want to help them in Winter. It is entirely frost hardy and has good resistence against urban polution. Excellent for planting impenetrable hedges retaining leaves also in Winter. It has sharp thorns on its branches therefore it is also pretty resistant against vandalism. It does not require any special soil and tolerates shade and wind exposed positions. Excellent for training on a wall of any aspect. Unpruned shrubs grow to around 4x4m. |

| 2. | Oiseau Blue (Blue Bird) Rose of Sharon Description:Hibiscus syriacus Oiseau Blue is a popular shrub and possibly the most commonly gardened variety of Rose of Sharon Hibiscus. It flowers most splendidly in July and August with pale to medium-dark blue flowers, slightly edging into lavender. They are dark blue and magenta at the bottom of the throat. Some flowers occur even at the end of September. The tree grows moderately and if left unpruned its crown can reach up to 2m in diameter. This true Oiseau has been propogated grafts, therefore all plants produce have uniform flowers. Seed capsules are decorative in winter, but leaving can cause seedlings to spread in the garden. Oiseau Blue is one of the most beautiful of all Rose of Sharon cultivars, its blue blossoms are large and numerous, standing out wonderfully amidst the wrinkly green foliage. Oiseau Blue transplants easily and is not demanding about soil conditions. It requires full sun and does well on dry locations. It will thrive in partial shade, but blooms will be less numerous. It is cold hardy in zones five through eight. A hard pruning in late winter will result in fewer but much larger five-inch-wide flowers, and a moderate pruning results in larger number of smaller flowers. No pruning can result in less flowers as it exclusively flowers on new wood. Therefore approx. one-third of the previous year's growth should be trimmed out each Spring before the new growth begins. |
