Description:
Procera is one of most favorite firs, the thick heavy textured extremely blue foliage sets it apart. Perhaps the bluest noble fir with the short, densely arranged powder-blue needles The curved, bluish needles grow upright on the twigs and are definitely parted on the undersides of the twigs. The tree itself has a fine horizontally branched pyramidal habit. Limbs are horizontal with purple male stamens. The female cylindrical cones are the largest of all Abies species. They stand straight up and are 20cm high and 7cm thick. They are green at first and then turns a purplish brown. The tree grows in moist deep soil where it can reach a height of 10-20m or can become a large shrub if leader is removed. Water moderate to regular. Partial to full sun. Growth rate slow 2-2.5m in 10 years. Zone 5. Hardiness : -25 degrees C and more. Prefers deep, rich moist soil - not suitable for chalk. Needs a plentiful supply of water, but will not stand being water-logged. Can be trained to form a bonsai.
